Job Description
Maintaining efficiency and economy in operations management
requires flexibility in job assignments. While each employee shall
have a primary responsibility for the job in which that employee
has been hired or later promoted to, each employee may be expected
to perform other jobs from time to time.
SUMMARY:
Under the direction of the Facilities Supervisor, the Serviceperson
performs general maintenance, repair, cleaning and landscaping for
all MTS Rail stations, parking lots, right-of-way's, buildings and
yards.
Servicepersons are scheduled to work the morning or afternoon
shift, with shift assignments bid on in seniority order.
Servicepersons can expect to be assigned to work nights, weekends,
and holidays until such time as their individual seniority allows
them to bid to more desirable shifts and days off, and will work
overtime if required for operational efficiency. Essential duties
include, but are not limited to, the following:

QUALIFICATIONS:
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of or ability to learn MTS policies and regulations;
ability to read, understand and apply MTS policies, regulations and
union labor contracts; ability to write letters, memoranda and
reports using clear, concise and grammatically correct English;
ability to speak clearly, distinctly and effectively in
person-to-person or small group situations using tact and
diplomacy; ability to coordinate and initiate actions necessary to
implement decisions and delegate responsibilities to appropriate
personnel; ability to establish and maintain priorities in order to
complete assignments by deadlines without detailed instructions;
ability to exercise prudent and timely judgment in normal and
emergency situations; ability to stand for long periods of time;
must have a flexible schedule and be available to work on days,
nights, weekends and holidays.
Physical Requirements
The successful candidate must be able to fulfill the physical
demands of the job such as driving, walking, climbing stairs,
stooping, sitting, bending, reaching overhead and heavy lifting
(must be able to lift 75 pounds unaided). Must be able to walk for
extended periods of time, often on uneven ground or in confined
places, and work outdoors in inclement weather conditions. Must
have the ability to operate a motor vehicle and perform tasks
involving manual dexterity, such as use of a computer and 10-key.
Must be able to carry equipment and wear black or dark brown work
boots with closed toes. Work may at times require more than 8 hours
per day, variable shifts, or require irregular hours to perform the
essential duties of the position. Duties will be performed
primarily in an outdoor environment.
Experience/Education/Certificates/License(s)
A high school diploma or GED certificate is preferred, but not
required. Must possess and maintain a valid California driver's
license. A copy of the K-4 DMV driving record must accompany
application. No applicant will be considered whose traffic record
reflects irresponsibility or disregard of traffic rules and
laws.
GENERAL:
Must satisfactorily pass all applicable examinations including, but
not limited to, a pre-employment physical, drug screen and
background check.
SALARY:
$20.57 per hour
