Recreation Aide positions are assigned to work at various City of
San Diego recreation centers, teen centers and after school
programs; assist with games, crafts, sports, dance and aquatic
activities; supervise locker areas; provide information to the
public; register participants in classes; perform cashier duties;
distribute equipment and games; make simple repairs to equipment
and facilities; perform general maintenance of facilities and
grounds; assist with/participate in special events. Recreation Aide
positions are used to underfill Golf Operations Assistant positions
; answer questions concerning the golf course and procedures, rules
and regulations; determine and collect proper green fees from
customers and arrange starting order for players; organize golfers
into playing groups and make arrangements for timely spacing;
patrol the golf course to interpret and enforce course rules; keep
records, including those for numbers of players and cash receipts;
operate a cash register/computer; close out and balance cash
register; determine and issue resident identification cards; and
perform other duties as assigned.

* Employees in job classifications represented by Municipal
Employees Association (MEA) are scheduled to receive the following
general wage increase: 5% effective 7/1/25. -
* Eligible benefitted employees originally hired on or after July
10, 2021, will be automatically enrolled in the San Diego City
Employees Retirement System (SDCERS).
* Recreation Aide positions are available on a part-time and/or
limited, hourly basis and may average up to 19 hours per week,
primarily during afternoon, evening and weekend hours. During
holiday breaks and summer, hours are generally increased.
* Recreation Aide positions may be utilized at recreation centers,
swimming pools, golf courses and teen centers. Some positions
require that you be available to work between 8:00 a.m. to 10:00
p.m. during weekdays, and on weekends.
* In accordance with California Public Resources Code section 5163,
all persons holding Recreation Aide positions must get tested for
tuberculosis (TB) when hired and every four years thereafter as a
condition of continued employment.
You must meet the following requirements on the date you apply,
unless otherwise indicated.

AGE: 15 - years of age or older.

* Applicants less than age 18 must obtain a work permit prior to
starting work.
* Work permits are obtained through the school system.
* Applicants who are age 17 and are high school graduates, or have
passed the California High School Proficiency Exam (CHSPE) or
General Education Development (GED) examination, are not required
to have a work permit.
CITIZENSHIP: You must be a United States citizen or have the
current legal right to work in the United States.

HIGHLY DESIRABLE:
* Voluntary or paid experience leading a variety of recreational
activities.

be reviewed for applicable education, experience, and/or training
to ensure all minimum requirements have been met. Successful
candidates will be placed on a list which will be used to fill
position vacancies during the next six months (180 days). For each
vacancy, only those candidates with the most appropriate
qualifications will be contacted by the hiring department for an
interview.
PRE-EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS: Employment offers are conditional
pending the results of all screening processes applicable to this
position, which may include the following: confirmation of
citizenship or legal right to work in the United States; completion
of a -pre-employment medical review and exam (which may include
drug and alcohol testing); reference checks; and fingerprinting.
Fingerprints will be submitted to the Federal Bureau of
Investigation and the California Department of Justice for a
conviction record report. Certain positions may require additional
screening processes, which may include a polygraph examination
and/or background investigation. All of these processes must be
successfully completed before employment begins. A positive test
for alcohol, cannabis/marijuana, or illegal drugs, or inadequately
explained prescription drugs, or misrepresentation, falsification,
or omission of pertinent facts in any step of the screening or
selection process, may be cause for disqualification or termination
of employment. Nothing in this job posting constitutes an express
