Come join the family!Job SummaryThe Robotic Automation & Mechanical Design Engineer at Daylight will be responsible for the design and analysis of robotic alignment systems for photonics products. They should have a strong understanding of mechanical design practices including precision mechanisms, kinematics, and thermal control. They will also be responsible for the integration of off-the-shelf translation stages, rotation stages, micro-grippers, and machine vision systems in large complex assemblies. Additionally, they will support the design, analysis, documentation, testing, and manufacturing of optical/laser products, systems, and/or subsystems. Working with a multi-disciplinary design team, they will execute on mechanical modeling, prototyping, calculations, FEA, and testing. The successful candidate would be able to compile/review data and perform mechanical analyses (hand calculations, FEA) to make design decisions and implement them in CAD/documentation. Along with design, they will conduct formal reviews, support failure analyses and proposals. They should additionally be able to work independently, be flexible, and be receptive to ideas and feedback.Job Responsibilities

  • Develop optic alignment architectures for both coarse and precision motion with micro-grippers.
  • Design novel systems to align and install optical components with minimal technician intervention.
  • Develop high throughput manufacturing processes to produce high volume laser systems with minimized cycle times.
  • Utilize best design practices for parametric modeling in large complex assemblies.
  • Design pick/place systems utilizing machine vision for position detection.
  • Design expert-level cable management systems for moving assemblies.
  • Perform thermal, structural, and vibration modeling of complex opto-mechanical assemblies & alignment systems.
  • Utilize and optimize automated fluid dispense systems.
  • Design UV curing systems and strategies for optic bonding.
  • Design for integration of die bonding into complex assemblies.
  • Design and setup optical metrology systems utilizing cameras, power meters, wavemeters, and other devices.
  • Design of sheet metal and CNC machined parts.
  • Maintain design for serviceability and maintainability best practices.
  • Maintain safety and cleanliness standards across all systems and subsystems in a cleanroom environment.
  • Ability to work independently and regularly report progress and status.
  • Conduct detailed design reviews for both design and manufacturing audiences.
  • Hands on prototyping, assembly, and test for characterization of design intent.
  • Facilitation of hardware procurement.
  • Writing engineering change orders and manufacturing work instructions.The Ideal Candidate
    • Experience with CAD packages: SolidWorks and PDMWorks.
    • Experience designing and/or using automated industrial manufacturing equipment.
    • Experience with high precision fluid dispensing systems.
    • Experience with FEA packages: ANSYS structural and Icepak.Qualifications
      • Bachelor's degree in engineering or related technical field or equivalent experience and a minimum of 2 years of experience in automated manufacturing.
      • Competent technical expertise and application domain knowledge.
