$92,807.00/yearJob Summary:The Digital Communications Specialist
plays a crucial role in amplifying the stories of home care
providers, family child care providers, and the dedicated families
they serve. In this position, you will craft compelling internal
and member-to-member communications that champion racial, economic,
and social justice principles. You will create impactful
communication pieces, content, and projects using strong
storytelling abilities and a profound commitment to advance social
justice causes. Your responsibilities will encompass creating
diverse communication materials, interviewing union members and
leaders, supporting social media content, and working closely with
the Communications and different departments to develop and execute
unified communication strategies.Job Duties and
Responsibilities:
- Manage and coordinate delivery of email blasts, texts, and
Hustle campaigns to union members and non-members as requested by
field staff, with accuracy and in a timely manner.
- Draft and manage content for social media.
- Draft and manage content for the website, newsletters, and
other digital and printed materials.
- Draft content for emails and text messages.
- Own the full email and SMS production process (e.g., planning,
development, scheduling, testing, etc.).
- Segment lists and target communication strategies based on
behaviors.
- Develop communication content and design formatting and layout;
collaborate with design team on graphics.
- Help manage Action Network, Mobile Commons, peer-to-peer, and
other technology systems used to create, generate, and distribute
email and SMS campaigns.
- Develop and optimize automated email and SMS campaign
flows.
- Compile web, email, and social networking analytics into weekly
reports and/or as requested.
- Utilize analytics, digital ad campaigns, and marketing tools to
grow UDW's social media accounts, with special emphasis on
Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.
- Maintain the accuracy of UDW's social media content and assist
digital team with accuracy of UDW websites.
- Respond to social media and online inquiries in a timely and
appropriate manner.
- Increase the number of people in UDW's online communities and
levels of engagement.
- Assist field staff and local boards with the growth and
maintenance of regional Facebook groups and other social
media.
- Coordinate data collection across digital platforms to keep
membership records updated and accurate.
- Develop and manage initiatives and contests that organically
grow email and text message databases.
- Create and maintain reporting on email and SMS campaigns that
measure effectiveness and organizational impact; provide regular
reporting to leadership on metrics, trends, and strategy.
- Collaborate cross-departmentally to develop effective email and
text communications calendar.
- Monitor and maintain data quality within the email and text
message platform's databases.
- Attend and cover UDW events, including taking photos and video,
talking to members, and posting to social media.
- Assist with other communications projects as needed such as
press outreach, prepping members for interviews and public
speaking, and more.
- Assist with or lead communications trainings for UDW members
and/or staff.
- Support other activities related to UDW's internal and external
communications programs.
- Assist with department projects and perform other duties as
assigned which are reasonably within the scope of work in this job
classification.Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills,
particularly the ability to take complex material and make it
accessible to a broad audience.
- Ability to manage multiple digital campaigns at once (e.g.,
texting campaigns, eblast campaigns, digital ad campaigns,
etc.)
- Expertise using Microsoft programs, including Word, Excel,
PowerPoint, Teams, Outlook; Adobe Photoshop, InDesign, and Acrobat;
Zoom; Canva or similar design programs; familiarity with social
media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter) and social
management software like Hootsuite, Buffer, etc.; task management
software like Asana.

- Superior understanding of digital marketing strategy and best
practices.
- Working knowledge of HTML & CSS and latest versions of
applicable programs (Windows/Mac OS).

- Ability to work with highly technical cross-functional teams
and thrive in a fast-paced, demanding environment.
- Software, apps, platforms: MS Office Suite, Adobe CS (or
similar), Canva, Wordpress, Action Network, Mobile Commons, Hustle,
Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and social management software like
Hootsuite, Buffer, etc.
- Ability to work long and irregular hours, sometimes including
weekends, to complete projects and support campaigns.Preferred
Qualifications, Education and/or Experience:
- 1-2 years of digital communications experience running social
media and email.
- Degree in advertising, marketing, communication science or
equivalent.
- Familiarity with project management, overseeing workflows,
social media trends and tools, analytics reporting, and copy
editing.
- Holistic digital campaign strategy and execution in
collaboration with designers and other contributors.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Innovative and web and multimedia savvy.
- Ability to turn creative strategy into a meaningful digital
experience for target audiences.
- Familiarity with Search Engine Optimization (SEO).
- Bilingual (a plus).Requirements:
- Must possess a valid California driver's license, auto
insurance that covers business driving, and an automobile for
business use.
- Willingness to travel, and ability to work flexible hours and
work long and irregular hours, including evenings and
